Let's Be Straightforward with You

Many privacy policies read like they were written by a lawyer for another lawyer. This one is not going to do that. At Carmovics, we sell occasion wear and tailored menswear to people in Hong Kong who have places to be and things to celebrate. When you shop with us, you trust us with your personal information, and we think you deserve a clear, honest account of what happens to it.

So here it is.

The Law Behind This Policy

Hong Kong has a specific piece of legislation that governs how businesses like ours handle personal data. It is called the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, PDPO, Cap. 486 , and it sets out six Data Protection Principles that every organization collecting personal data in Hong Kong must follow.

We follow them. All six. Not selectively, not partially, fully.

The PDPO gives you real rights over your own data, and this policy is built around respecting those rights rather than working around them.

What We Actually Know About You

When you visit carmovics.com or place an order with us, certain information naturally comes our way. Here is what that looks like in practice:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, and delivery address, because we cannot ship a gown or a suit jacket to nobody
  • Your order history and the items you have purchased from us
  • Payment details, which are processed through secure third-party payment platforms; we never see or store your full card number
  • Procedural data from your device and browser, collected passively through cookies and analytics tools
  • Any messages you send us directly, whether that is a sizing question, a complaint, or a compliment

That is the full picture. We are not quietly gathering data points you would not expect. If it is not on this list, we are not collecting it.

Why We Need It

Data without purpose is just clutter. Every piece of information we hold about you exists for a specific reason:

  • To process your order correctly and get it to you without confusion
  • To keep you informed about the status of your purchase
  • To respond when you reach out to us with a question or concern
  • To understand, in aggregate, how people use our website so we can make it better
  • To send you updates about new arrivals or promotions, but only if you have actively chosen to hear from us
  • To meet our obligations under Hong Kong law

The moment a piece of data is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected; we do not hold onto it.

Who Else Sees Your Information

Short answer: nearly nobody.

Slightly longer answer: there are a small number of third parties involved in running an online retail business: the payment processor that handles your transaction, the logistics partner that delivers your order, and the analytics platform that tells us how our website is performing. These parties receive only what they need to do their specific job, and they are contractually required to protect your data with the same seriousness we apply ourselves.

We do not sell your data. We do not pass it to advertisers. We do not share it with anyone who has not earned a specific, legitimate reason to see it.

The only other scenario in which your data might be disclosed is if Hong Kong law, a court order, or a regulatory authority requires it, and in that case, we have no choice but to comply.

How We Keep Your Data Secure

We use procedural and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, accidental loss, or misuse. Access to your data within our team is strictly limited to people who genuinely need it to do their job.

No system is entirely without risk, but we take reasonable and appropriate steps to keep yours as secure as possible.

What the PDPO Gives You the Right to Do

Because we operate under Hong Kong's PDPO, you have a set of enforceable rights over your personal data:

  • Access - You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, and we will tell you
  • Correction - If something we hold is wrong or outdated, you can ask us to fix it
  • Opt-out - If you previously agreed to receive marketing messages from us and have changed your mind, you can withdraw that at any point with no fuss
  • Complaint - If you feel we have mishandled your personal data, you have the right to raise a complaint directly with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) in Hong Kong

We will not make any of this difficult for you. If you want to exercise any of these rights, just contact us.

When This Policy Changes

If we update this policy, because our practices evolve, or because Hong Kong law changes, or simply because we find a clearer way to explain something, the new version will replace this one on this page. We will not bury the changes. If something significant shifts in how we handle your data, we will make sure it is visible.

We suggest checking back occasionally, not out of obligation, but because staying informed is always worthwhile.
